Meet Chef Matt Smith

Meet Chef Matt Smith

The saying “When you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself” seems like the inspiration that drove Chef Matt Smith of Delta Gamma at Virginia into a career in the culinary arts. He discovered a passion for cooking when he was about twelve years old. Neither of his parents were talented cooks, and he wanted something better to eat. Flash forward to his college years and he’s attending The Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Arts, which was later taken over by Le Cordon Bleu. He described Culinary School as a great time to come across a ton of information that you couldn’t come across in any other way. It was during his time there that he really got involved with the culture of restaurants.

Meet Chef Tiffany Schumacher-Kappa Alpha Order at The University of Florida

Meet Chef Tiffany Schumacher-Kappa Alpha Order at The University of Florida

“Really, I’m an artist above all else. I draw, I paint. Food is just one of my applications,” Chef Tiffany says. She discovered her love of cooking early in life. Coming from a big family, she was making family dinners by the time she was eleven years old. In Gainesville, Florida her grandparent’s had a lake house with a garden that she can remember picking from to make salads. Growing up in a military meant lots of moving around, living everywhere from Michigan to California to Greece and London. But, spending summers and holidays at the lake house made it a kind of home. Tiffany didn't fall into the world of professional cooking right way. “I’m a career changer,” she joked.

Chef Paul Hyman - Area Manager

Chef Paul Hyman - Area Manager

Chef Paul Hyman's start in the food industry was a little shaky. “I was a horrible bus boy,” he said, explaining the time he spilled cake and coffee all over an elderly woman dining at the restaurant. Instead of firing him, the restaurant owner, who was luckily a family friend, moved him from dishwasher. From there he began to climb the ranks of the food world, from dishwasher to executive chef to his current position with College Chefs.

Chef Eric Inscho - Area Manager

Chef Eric Inscho - Area Manager

An artist by nature, Chef Eric Inscho satisfies his creative yearnings by creating culinary masterpieces. While he formally went to school for illustration, the culinary world is second nature to him. “I’ve worked in restaurants since I was about sixteen,” he details. When he was a kid, both of his parents went back to school. So, Chef Eric was left to his own devices to experiment in the kitchen, cooking for himself.

Chef John Cagle - Regional Director

Chef John Cagle - Regional Director

The series of events that lead John Cagle to become a chef are certainly unexpected. But, he discovered his passion for cooking in a romantic, fit for a Hollywood movie location, France. He grew up in a very small town in Central Illinois and continued his education at Eastern Illinois University, also located in Central Illinois, graduating with English and French degrees. After college, he accepted an assistantship to teach in France, where he lived for the next four years. The exposure to various foods in France was unlike anything he had experienced before. This inspired him to move back to the states and pursue a culinary degree at The Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago.
