Meet Chef Shawn Hunter. Chef Shawn is absolutely beloved by the women of the ChiO sorority at Iowa State University. Her passion for food and baking is perhaps only eclipsed by her love of the job that she cherishes.
She exemplifies the principles of College Chefs in so many ways and has been able to establish a true bond between herself, the Chapter, and the rest of the team at College Chefs.
Director of Operations, Chef Jared Bost reflects, "I remember when Chef Shawn first came on board with us [several years back]. She was very timid. Being a young, new Chef in a house full of sorority women can be an intimidating thing for sure. I remember when I popped in on her one day ... she was pretty nervous as she was still new to the job. I walk in and look around, the kitchen is clean, she's in full uniform, her coolers are perfectly organized, and the food she was making was off the hook. She was making it look easy and didn't even know it."
Bost continues, "Some Chefs struggle with that nervous energy in the very beginning. Chefs like Shawn actually harness that to perform well because they're not driven by ego, which we see a lot of in the Chef-world, they're driven by a sincere desire to please those they serve using their skill and passion of food."
"She has been a rockstar for us in so many ways. Not only is her food some of the best on campus but these ladies absolutely love her and it's not hard to see why," Bost concludes.
Chef Shawn has been a mainstay in the ChiO house for the past several years. She has earned the respect of the chapter women and House Director, Carol "Coco" Whipple.
According to Coco, "Chef Shawn is a true friend and blessing to me and this chapter. She is so sweet to all of us and we love her as a person as much as we love her food -- which is awesome. She is so good taking our feedback and requests and she does everything to accomodate the chapter in every way possible. I can't imagine this house without her."
